Why R U So Slow?

Turtle of the Day.

I was thinking deep thoughts in the middle of the night and gave thanks for the property I own and the many turtles I have found over the years. This one was especially beautiful. I also found an albino box turtle one year. I only saw it once so I expect it didn't live long.

This box turtle has amazing markings. You are fortunate to see turtles in the wild, as they are in decline nation-wide. They are such long lived creatures. A female needs to have 30-40 years of a reproductive life to have 1-3 offspring survive. Predation, habitat-loss, roads, lawn mowers, and people picking them up and taking them home are the main causes of the decline.

Hope you post more pictures.

I normally see 6 -12 of them per year and frequently take pictures and put them back where they came from. They thrive on my property because we mow the fields only in alternating years. The pond is chock full of snappers and sliders. Heaven.
